Basic Guide for Personal Trainer Course

If you are passionate about health and fitness and looking for the career in the fitness industry, then don’t do work as the job and just love what you do. The fitness industry is an exciting, vibrant, fun environment to work in. It's hard work and can mean long hours, but the rewards are very  high.

To get your career on the right track, you need to have a genuine interest in the fitness industry.  You also need to choose the right personal fitness trainer course that will give you the correct tools to become a successful personal trainer.

Personal Trainers need to be registered with REPS – The Register of Exercise Professionals. To become registered with REPS, you need to be able to show that the personal trainer course that you have studied on is accredited by them.

There are various levels of this professional and there are national standards from the REPS register that people can follow. To become a gym instructor, the qualification needs to be at Level 2; and to be a certified personal fitness trainer, the course needs to be at a Level 3. The main operators would not want to employ people that aren't qualified to the correct level. Once you have the personal fitness training qualification, the next step is to find your niche in the fitness industry.

There are a couple of different options. Some personal trainers choose to work in a gym. They tend to be paid a salary and work for the company and not themselves. This tends to reduce the potential money that they can earn because the personal training fee is fixed for clients and a percentage of it must be paid back to the gym. The benefit of this method is that you have full access to training the gym’s client database and most gyms provide liability insurance for their trainers.
Trainers can also choose to rent space in one of the larger franchise gym chains. They don’t actually work for the gym, but pay a fee to the gym to train their clients at that facility. In some cases, the gym will offer leads from their members to you. Trainers will be required to pay for their own insurance since they are working for themselves, but are free to attract clients how they wish and to charge whatever payment they deem appropriate for their services.
